Tipon Inca ruins and typical guinea pig restaurants
Tipon is famous for its Inca ruins and guinea pig restaurants, Tipon is very small town, and there are only typical Cuy restaurants that lined both sides of the highway. In front of many of the restaurants were igloo-shaped, adobe ovens, and you can see the cooks oven-roasting the cuys. On the top there is one of the most interesting samples of agricultural terracing and water management developed by the Incas. Still today, water is rushing though the channels and wide terraces - masterpieces of walls - are in perfect condition.

Trip Itinerary
Pick up at your Hotel at 09:00; we start by driving high above Cusco and the outlying town of Corao. At 4000m we reach the end of the road above Lake Qoricocha. Here, we leave the vehicles behind and slowly contour around to 4200m and some ancient Inca platforms (“Apachetas”) at the pass. These are believed to mark the boundary and entrance to the Huchuy Qosqo Inca Estate.The rest of the day’s trek follows a well preserved ancient Inca trail and is flat or downhill, past herds of llamas and alpacas, the rustic village and church of Pucamarca, an Inca bridge through a narrow canyon and emerging high above the spectacular Sacred Valley of the Incas. This is a perfect view spot to enjoy our picnic lunch or snack-pack.A contour on the high ride brings us to the entrance gates of Huchuy Qosqo and the extensive ruins themselves. Little is known about this mysterious site, ‘little Cusco’ as it translates in Quechua may have been the country retreat of one of the first Incas. Its three-storey high storage houses, extensively trapezoid-niche walls, large main central square, three meters high terracing walls and its hidden location above the Sacred Valley make this gem a real pleasure to explore.The descent to Lamay is on a steep donkey trail down a ridge in the large cliffs and finally at the river Urubamba we meet our vehicle for the drive back to Cusco. A slightly longer but less steep hike is also available to the town of Calca adding an extra hour to the total trekking time. -

- Try guinea pig, tastes mostly like chicken, has much less meat but is more expensive and difficult to eat. If you want to, you can have a look into the kitchen where cuy for the next day are prepared and collected in big bowls.

- Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping
- Flashlight/headlamp and batteries
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold, Sun block
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Insect repellent – minimum recommended 20% DEET – no malaria risk has been reported
- Handkerchiefs and Toilet paper
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc. Please note that we do provide a daily morning snack and our meal service is very complete and well supplied. Non-disposable canteen (Nalgene type) and water for the first morning. Optionally: water -sterilizing tablets in case you pick up water from streams or rivers along the route. Otherwise, we provide filtered boiled water, which is safe to drink and has not reported any health problem so far
